¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!

Today I took part in a demonstration in which we union teachers protested against Schwarzenegger's war on public education.

We assembled at the State Building at McAllister and Van Ness. Armed with signs and some with whistles we marched around the general area chanting our protest.

Although directly we fighting against Schwarzenegger's going back on his word about giving public schools back the money he "borrowed" last year, in a larger sense we are fighting for our democracy. As I once heard someone say, if you lose your middle class, then you lose your democracy. I dare to add that if you lose well-funded public education, then you lose your middle class.

The fact that corporate AmeriKKKa doesn't understand that it's shooting itself in the foot astonishes me. Who's going to buy the useless crap that they (over-)produce if there's an ever shrinking middle class?

Having no education, those poor young folks will be prime meat for the military recruiters - just like the Eloi naïvely marching to their cavernous deaths in H. G. Wells' "The Time Machine".

The myopic selfishness of some people scandalizes me - how very sad for all concerned.

Nonetheless, it felt great to "let 'er rip" today in front of the State Building. Many were the drivers who honked their horns in support. We´re not alone. Corporate AmeriKKKa if you try to disenfranchise us, you´ll have a helluva fight on your hands.

¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!
