Washington's Birthday weekend

Because of the Three-Day weekend, I finally got some things done today at home that I've been putting off for weeks. Why did I put them off? Because when I do get home weekdays I am mostly so mentally exhausted that the last thing I want to do is housework.

The Three-Day Washington Birthday weekend has been very relaxing and enjoyable, though. Saturday night despite the threat of rain I accompanied Jerry, Claudia and little Dylan to the Chinese New Year Parade. This is the Year of the Rooster. The parade was full of darling little ones in rooster and chick costumes. Little Dylan really did make off with quite a few little gifts: candy, red envelopes and even a toy firefighter's hat!

Sunday went with Brandon to Yum Yum, our regular Sunday night dining Stammtisch. Afterwards we rushed over to the Roxie to see Head On (originally titled Gegen die Wand). I must say there was a lot of sex and violence: neither my cup of tea nor chai, for that matter. Reading today about the film, it turns out that the female lead, her actual first name is Sibel as in the film, had acted in porno films prior to filming Gegen die Wand. It doesn't surprise me.

Today (aw, the joys of a Monday off), I did my duty and went over to 三寳寺 to teach Venerable English. She's learning very well. Today the both of us were really lucky, because Ursula was there. She speaks both Mandarin and English well, so she was able to interpret some of the finer points of the new vocabulary that I was introducing to Venerable.

Next weekend it's off to southern California for a stay at 西來寺. 師傅 is going to pick me up at Long Beach Airport and arrange for me to stay for free(!) at
西來寺. I am very enthusiastic about going. I hope that I will be able to meet with Ven. Dr. Yifa while there. If I am very lucky, then I will also meet 大師. Venerable told me this afternoon that he is now there.
